One of my favourite hiking routes! One of the best 'bang for your buck' routes you can do from Conwy. A great and tough route as a two hour power hike, a longer leisurely walk or solid trail run. It gets some good tough climbs in and loads of stunning views across the sea and into the mountains.

Directions:

  1. Head up the Conwy Ridge Route up Conwy Mountain via the small path on the right off Mountain road.

  2. Head over the summit complex and head towards Alltwen (straight ahead to the left). After crossing the stream head up Alltwen along the lefthand ridge as you look at it from the track. Follow this track to the summit.

  3. From the summit initially re-trace your steps but this time on the descent follow the right hand fork which takes you down a steep rocky track to Sychnant pass.

  4. Cross Sychnant pass and head up through the metal gate. Follow this path then take the first right up, follow this up a grassy climb. Turn right at the signpost halfway up the climb.

  5. Follow this path until you get a gate with a style next to it. Go through the gate and turn left up the track. As the track bends left, follow the small footpath uphill which brings you up to the small summit of Maen Escob.

  6. Follow the footpath in a North Easterly direction off the summit towards Conwy. When you reach the wall line follow that downhill until it turns into a road with hairpin bends. At the bottom of this road turn left onto the road in Llechwedd.

  7. After 50m or so, turn right down the passageway. At each of the upcoming gates head straight ahead and walk across the fields until you reach the tudor-style houses. Pass these, until you reach a road. Here turn right, then immediately left across the fields, follow this down to the new Oakwood estate. Exit the Oakwood estate downhill, then turn right and follow Sychnant Pass Road back to the YHA.
