Race thoughts: I've only done this run as a recce so can't comment on the race organisation. The main reason for not doing it is that I suck at running in the heat, and so a half marathon in July is down my priority list. I wish they did a spring/autumn version as its a glorious route!

Overview of route: A stunning course. It starts on the beach near the Marina and heads off at low tide (different start time each year) along the beach for a mile before joining the coastal path at the Conwy Morfa car park. It then follows the paved cycle track for the next 6km to the end of Penmaenmawr promenade. Here it cross over the A55 and commences a long road climb through the beautiful village of Capelulo up to intimidating Sychnant Pass. From here you turn left and head off-road up and over the shoulder of Conwy Mountain before joining onto the ridge lower down and descending to Cowny. Note, it switches between the traverse path and the ridge path a couple of times but I'm sure this is well marked on race day. It then heads down to the coastline and follows Marine Walk round to the school, then right towards the Marina. Here it turns left and left again to follow the road all the way down to Conwy Morfa beach car park. Then a final 1 mile beach finish awaits you. A real mix of on and off-road.

Shoe Choice: This race often has a 'thin' field because there is enough off-road to put off the road runners, and enough on-road to put off the trail runners. Shoe choice reflects this. If it has been dry then you can definitely get away with road shoes (I did for my recce)! If it has been wet then you may want to consider some tread.
