CONWY WALK & RUN
Oakwood Loop
Distance: 2.26 miles+ (4m+ with extensions) Ascent: 105 metres
Surface: mixed
This is a great short loop which can act as the basis for longer loops. Whilst getting a few smaller hills in, the terrain is forgiving and combines the flowing Oakwood fields with views from the lower slopes of Conwy mountain and across the bay towards Great Orme.
Directions:
-
Head up Sychnant pass from the YHA. Turn left onto the new Oakwood Estate (Lon Caer Seion) and follow the road uphill to the right alongside the fields.
-
At the top of the estate go through the kissing gate onto the fields above Oakwood. Follow the path across the fields to the gate/road at the far side.
-
Turn right and follow the road to Sychnant pass road. Cross the road (slightly to the road) and follow the track down across the bridge over the stream and up the hill to the gate.
-
Follow the path to the right. At the junction head across to the right up hill, this takes you onto the lower Conwy mountain ridge.
-
Upon reaching the ridgeline turn right and follow the path down Conwy mountain, go over the style and join Mountain Road.
-
This road joins Cadnant park road, here turn right and head up hill to the Sychnant pass road junction and then turn right again up to the YHA.
Extensions:
-
At step 4, you can easily extend your walk by heading on any one of the paths that head up Conwy mountain (see Conwy mountain routes page) and loop back down.
-
At step 6 you can turn left and join the Marine walk/Conwy town loop in reverse.
